Element Overview: Cocos Nucifera

MaaDisha is committed to being transparent about everything we put into our products, so we have decided to put together a series of posts which dive a bit deeper into the good stuff we use.

This week we are focusing on cocos nucifer aka coconut palm. This fruit is different from many others because of its high water content. Many people call coconut trees “the tree of life” because of the many benefits the coconut plant brings.

  • The plants water can be used to avoid burning sensation on the skin.
  • The oil (which we use in our Oil6) helps nourish the hair and increase length.
  • The fruit itself is an aphrodisiac agent and helps avoid general body weakness.
  • Coconuts are highly nutritious and rich in fiber, vitamins and minerals. They provide many health benefits beyond just the nutritional value.

Coconut water is one thing that is gaining popularity in todays society, but in reality cocos nucifera has been utilized in many places around the world for both its nutritional and medicinal benefits. It also happens to be used in our Oil6 to help make hair stronger and healthier.

A Tasty Tip To Fight Blemishes

Well we can’t really tell you how it tastes, but the combination of these ingredients sound quite delish. Try this “Do It Yourself” mask using these simple elements found in your home.

  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon powder
  • 1 teaspoon of honey

Mix the ingredients until you get a thick paste then apply to your face in soft, slow circular motions. Leave it on overnight - pull your hair back and place towel over your pillows to avoid a messy night’s sleep. Wash off with lukewarm water then apply cold water to close the pores.

Do this every night for two weeks and the root of your blemish bummers are bound to fade.

Stay Happy, Stay Healthy

We’re always so caught up in our everyday lives that we forget to take care of what keeps us moving in the first place. We already know it’s important to stay active with exercise, but let’s not put aside the simple daily activities that make us truly happy. Here are a few tips to boost that happiness:

  • Give your mind a break! Find some time to think (or daydream) about something fun you’ve done or a special person you’ve recently connected with.
  • Early morning bird chirps are great, but there’s nothing like the sound of laughter. Share a funny moment with a friend or coworker to help ease day to day stress.
  • Say cheese! Smiling is contagious and can easily be ignited from the people around you when you’re showing those pearly whites.
  • Be grateful. Say thank you to the stranger who holds a door open for you or to the barista that makes your delicious morning coffee. Most importantly, say thank you to LIFE!

Ayurvedic Tips To Lead A Fuller Life

This summer we really want to focus on getting the word out about Ayurveda and how following some basic Ayurvedic tips can help you live a fuller life. To kick off this summer campaign we want to start with the basics.

First and foremost we have mentioned the three doshas or the three life force energies on our site. Vata (comprised of air and space) Pitta (Fire) and Kapha is comprised of water and earth. Balancing the three doshas leads to a healthy system.  Doshas at birth are generally balanced.  Over a period of time however any deficiency, excess or imbalance of any doshas induce diseases.  These diseases may however be cured through diet (the right foods eaten at the right time, discipline (regular yoga and disciplined daily routines including the right amount of sleep and intake of water)  and  medicines (ayurvedic medicines generally don’t have any known side effects if administered properly.

Keep checking back throughout the summer as we will be posting Ayurvedic tips to keep you healthy, beautiful and feeling great! Also, feel free to share some tips with us you may have!

MaaDisha Soap5 Ayurvedic Organic Soap Review By BeautyGnome

The International Beauty Show was a great experience for many reasons, but one of the main reasons was because of the amazing people we got to talk to and share our products with. Beauty blogger Jessica, of the popular blog BeautyGnome, stopped by our booth and talked to us about her knowledge of organic products. We have her some samples of our Ayurvedic Soap5’s and this is the review that she gave us.

Please note that we ask all reviewers to be completely honest about our products. The more feedback we get the better we can make our products.

MaaDisha Soap5 Ayurvedic Organic Soap Review

Up for review today is Soap5- the line of all-natural, ayurvedic soaps by MaaDisha. What does “Ayurvedic”mean, you ask? According to the MaaDisha website, all of their products are “based on Ayurvedic principles, which focus on the balancing of the three life forces/energies (the three doshas: Vatta, Pitta, and Kapha)”
According to Wikipedia (Hey, I’m not in school anymore- I can use Wikipedia as a source!!) a “Dosha” is:
"one of three bodily humors that make up one’s constitution according to Ayurveda. These teachings are also known as the Tridosha system.
The central concept of Ayurvedic medicine is the theory that health exists when there is a balance between three fundamental bodily humours or doshas called Vata, Pitta and Kapha.
  • Vāta or Vāyu (wind) is the impulse principle necessary to mobilize the function of the nervous system. It affects the windy humour, flatulence, gout, rheumatism, etc.[1]
  • Pitta (bile) is the bilious humour, or that secreted between the stomach and bowels and flowing through the liver and permeating spleen, heart, eyes, and skin; its chief quality is heat.[2] It is the energy principle which uses bile to direct digestion and hence metabolism into the venous system.
  • Kapha (phlegm) is the body fluid principle which relates to mucous, lubrication and the carrier of nutrients into the arterial system.
All Ayurvedic physicians believe that these ancient ideas, based in the knowledge discovered by the Rishis and Munis, exist in harmony with physical reality.”
Ok, after that little venture into Ayurvedic research I think we are primed and ready to talk about this soap! Like I mentioned, these soaps are all-natural and organic. They have a very simple, wholesome list of ingredients which is something I really like. The three soaps- Orange, Neem, and Lavender, all share the same base ingredients: Sunflower oil, safflower oil, palm oil, coconut oil, aloe, lime essential oils, and turmeric. Each soap is made different by the addition of ingredients that read like a menu from an exotic eastern apothecary! Orange essential oils, lavender essential oils, comfrey roots, neem, wild ginger, olive oil, and holy basil oil are chosen for their healing and nourishing properties and added to their respective soaps.

All three have a subtle, natural fragrance. The neem soap is the most subtle of the three, the orange soap has the brightest and freshest fragrance, and the lavender soap has the strongest (yet still subtle) scent. The lavender soap is my favorite, the scent is natural and relaxing without being overwhelming. What I also like is that unlike some bath products, these have no “chemical-ly” or overpowering fragrances… because they are made without chemicals!
These soaps all have a really creamy lather, and they leave the skin feeling clean yet moisturized. I felt like they did not strip my skin of all its natural oils. I love natural, organic products… especially when they are efficacious! These soaps fulfill that requirement. I also love the idea behind these soaps, that they are based on Ayurvedic principles meant to optimize health and vitality.
These soaps are available at
What are your favorite natural/organic products?
Thank you so much for reading!
All the best,

Disclosure: These products were provided to me by PR for review. As always, I am committed to giving you my honest opinion. :o)

International Beauty Show Recap

We had such an exciting and amazing experience at this year’s International Beauty Show hosted at the Jacob Javits Center in NYC. The show lasted 3 days, April 22-24, and was MaaDisha’s first major trade show!

IBS was crawling with beauty professionals and students learning about the newest products and offerings in their industry. The event served as a wonderful platform for us to educate visitors about our line of organic and Ayurvedic soaps and hair products.

Overall we had a wonderful response. One salon professional even stated that we were “the cleanest organic” she had seen at the show. Coming from someone that knows organic products, this was quite the compliment!

Our favorite part of the show would have to be having the opportunity to meet and talk to some amazing people. We hope everyone enjoyed learning more about our products. We urge you if you purchased product from us to visit our website and let us know what you think!

Please visit our Facebook page to see more photos from the show.
